Lyrics
The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town
You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace
The upbeat track is about losing everything but still finding joy in what one has.
I was thinking of the conversations you can not have, the pictures you must take with you when you leave, our interpersonal relationships. I knew we could write songs like that, but the trick would be not to give in to melancholy, to write with defiance as well as honesty. The first time I thought we might have pulled it off was recording the song that would become "Beautiful Day." It wasn't "I Love You," but it was as innocuous and joyous a phrase. We were looking for some ecstatic quality. To sing a chorus like "It's a beautiful day," we'd need some clouds parting, the sun coming out, some kind of road rising.
Bono, Lead Singer U2
Optimism in relationships; studies have shown that when both people are optimistic in the relationship, they reported higher satisfaction and were able to problem solve in mutually beneficial ways.
“Life is full of surprises so, never lose hope. Anything can happen.”
The song had liftoff and lifted us out of wherever we were in our lives, brought us into orbit and back to earth in four minutes and five seconds. Because what's the use of liftoff if, being that high above yourselves, you don't get the advantage of perspective?
What a great reminder that sometimes the hard times in life look different if you look at the big picture. Considering a new perspective can elevate your mood, focus on the positive, and come up with creative solutions.
Lyrics
It's a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
The present moment is all we truly have.
The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.
Intentionally engage in your experiences. “What is needed to savor an experience in a positive way is to engage fully in the experience and to be conscious and mindful of every detail you can take in and to appreciate it fully” -Soots
“Forever is composed of nows.”
Lyrics
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now
It was a beautiful day
The lyrics, “What you don’t have, you don’t need it now” makes me wonder what anyone actually needs in life, and in love. Can we trust in moments when our needs are not met, that everything will eventually be alright?
The great Buddha taught that all fear comes from attachment. Let me explain how that is so. When you are attached to something you are saying that you need that thing. You think you need it for survival. When you think you need something you are going to be afraid to lose it. It’s okay to enjoy things, as long as you don’t become dependent on it.
Detachment philosophy is basically saying you don’t need anything. You don’t even need air. If you didn’t have air your body would die but your spirit would still be alive. We need to accept death, and be willing to die. If you are willing to die you instantly break all attachments and have no fear.
Isn’t it ironic that the way to really live, is to be willing not to live? I didn’t come up with this, Jesus did. He taught that if you try and save your own life, you will lose it. If you lose your life, for His sake, you will find it. One of life’s great mysteries is that if you are willing to die, you will get fear out of your system. You can have faith by getting comfortable and having spiritual energy flow through you. When you are willing to die, you have more life flowing through you.
Think about this…
When you lose hope in a situation, what do you do? How do you heal and find a positive perspective?
Have you practiced being in the moment? Can you savor the moment?
What are your self-care practices?
Key Take Aways
