Lyrics
I will be walking one day
Down a street far away
And see a face in the crowd and smile
Knowing how you made me laugh
Hearing sweet echoes of you from the past
I will remember you
For all of us who have lost precious loved ones; the lyrics “hearing sweet echoes of you from the past” truly resonates. Can you remember their voice, their laughter? I hope you can, and I hope it makes you smile.
The most wonderful places to be, are in someone’s thoughts, in someone’s prayers and in someone’s heart.
Lyrics
Look in my eyes while you're near
Tell me what's happening here
See that I don't want to say goodbye
Our love is frozen in time
I'll be your champion and you will be mine
I will remember
I will remember you
champion; a person who fights for a cause on behalf of someone else.
Lyrics
Later on
When this fire is an ember
Later on
When the night's not so tender
Given time
Though it's hard to remember darlin'
I will be holding
I'll still be holding to you
I will remember you
I love the lyrics “When this fire is an ember…I’ll still be holding to you”. There is no end to love.
Grief is a deeply personal experience, and sometimes other people will try and tell you how you should or should not experience your grief. This is not for them to decide. You experience, feel, express, and process in the way that needs to happen for you. Each day may be different. Each year may be different. Your love is real. Hold space for yourself and your loved one in the way that honors your love.
What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
I have been a huge fan of Amy Grant since her very first album in 1977. I was 8 years old when my Mom would blast the cassette tape in the bathroom while she got ready in the morning. We would both sing along to every song. Over the years, I’ve followed Amy Grant’s career and fallen in love with every album.
This song is extra special for several reasons. It appears on her “Heart in Motion” album 1991, a time when mainstream radio discovered Amy Grant. It felt like everyone loved her as much as I did. This tender song became a favorite of mine, long before I ever experienced profound loss. You can imagine what it means to me now having lost my husband and my Mom. I hope that it brings love and peace to you as you listen and experience this sweet, loving energy.
Note: this song was played at the graveside service for my Mom and felt like the perfect way to wrap up the celebration of her life. I know, that somewhere in Heaven, she was singing along.
Lyrics
So many years come and gone
And yet the memory is strong
One word we never could learn
