Lyrics
Saying "I love you"
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say but if you only knew
How easy, it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know
Making sure expressions of love are more than the bland, repetitious act of saying those three words, is a beautiful theme for a song. It is very relatable.
By “love,” I mean a wide range, including compassion, support, friendliness, encouragement, appreciation, and cherishing. It can be expressed in simple or subtle ways, such as a call to a friend, more patience with a partner, saying what you liked about a co-worker’s idea, or seeing the being behind the eyes of a stranger passing on the sidewalk.
Lyrics
What would you do
If my heart was torn in two?
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say
If I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying "I love you"
Co-writer Nuno Bettencourt described it as a warning that the phrase was becoming meaningless: “People usse it so easily and so lightly that they think you can say that and fix everything, or you can say that and everythings’s OK. Sometimes you have to do more and you have to show it-t here’s other ways to say “I love you”.
In a time when radio play was full of power ballads, Larry Flick from Billboard felt that this “tender, sparsely produced rock/love ballad proves that sometimes less really is more. The spotlight here on the band’s striking vocal harmonies, as well as its shimmering acoustic guitar work”. The Daily Vault’s Sean McCarthy called it a “beautiful, minimal acoustic number that made the band huge” and concluded that “for the band, ‘More Than Words’ is that song that will still get airplay.” Diane Cardwell from Entertainment Weekly called it “a simple, almost folky ballad using just two voices and a single acousitc guitar". Kirsten Frickle from El Paisano described it as an “all-acoustic ballad that is so beautiful that it will make your hair stand on end”.
Interestingly, this song was Selena Quintanilla’s favorite. Her husband, Chris, would often play it on their tour bus and they would sing it together. Following Selena’s death, the band Extreme learned it was her favorite and they dedicated it to her at one of their concerts.
Lyrics
Now that I've tried to
Talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hand and touch me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know
That high harmony gets me every time. Wow. Just wow.

Fun Fact Trivia:
Who was the first person to tell the band that the song was going to be huge?
Answer: Immediately after it was recorded, Nuno Bettencourt was listening to it in his bedroom. His older sister, Fatima, who didn’t pay much attention to their music, was walking by and stopped at the door. She asked, “Is that yours?” Nuno answered “Yeah we just recorded it”. Fatima replied, “You better not play that for anybody, and you'd better get that copyrighted because that’s a huge song”.

If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That’s why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.

Although this system was discovered in the 1990’s, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes!
